Meet The Trainer

Meet The Mind-Body Coach and Holistic Personal Trainer: Deana Pollard Sacks

In 2024, I became a Certified Personal Trainer with the International Sports Sciences Association. I have become as passionate about understanding human metabolism and overall health as I was about understanding First Amendment jurisprudence and the Liberty Clause - subjects of multiple publications while I was a law professor. Now I am working on my first health book explaining my methodology and synthesizing research concerning human cognition, the mind-body connection, metabolism, exercise, and anti-aging. My first two books concerned politics and government corruption, and I am very happy to have turned my research skills to healing people’s minds and bodies. My first books, The Godfathers of Sex Abuse (Books I & II) are available on Amazon.com and free excerpts are available here: https://thegodfathersofsexabuse.com/.

In 2024 I created my new business to help people learn about their minds and bodies and heal themselves on a deep and permanent level. I synthesized my prior First Amendment research on how the subconscious mind operates with my nutrition and fitness education to create my Holistic Personal Training and Mind-Body Coaching programs.  Each client is assessed with care to create an individualized program that is enjoyable and sustainable based on the client’s habits, lifestyle, genetic makeup, and overall preferences. My goal is to modify the client’s daily routine as gently as possible to make the program easy to follow and sustainable.

My method puts the client in control so that he or she can absorb the knowledge and continue learning independently without the need for ongoing services. Supplements and vitamins are not necessary for the majority of clients, whereas excellent nutritional choices are critical. When consumed in excess both macronutrients and micronutrients can harm the body whereas well-educated food choices operate as natural medicine and create ideal health.

My Holistic Personal Training program involves deep introspection, a candid assessment of what the client is thinking and doing to create current circumstances, and a clear understanding of client goals. Successful clients commit to creating a better life by understanding the power of the mind and how the mind and body interact.  For this reason, I prefer to begin with a detailed analysis of the client’s daily routine, relationships, and causes of stress. Clients are not required to share any sensitive information about themselves or their habits but candor is encouraged. The more I know, the more I can develop an individualized plan to maximize client outcomes while minimizing the discomfort that often accompanies change.

The good news is that there is great flexibility with my programs, so clients are free to decide how much they want to share and need not drastically change their lives or give up habits that they enjoy. My method involves tweaking existing habits as opposed to requiring clients to give up foods or habits that make them happy. Extraordinary, interdisciplinary knowledge about the mind and body allows for unlimited individualized recommendations that produce client goals. For example, clients have asked whether they can still drink wine on my program. The answer is yes, but the client may need to modify the type of wine consumed (organic only) and make it a habit to consume fiber and good fat prior to enjoying wine, which alters metabolism beneficially.

I transported my academic cognitive research into the fitness realm to help people understand the relationship between what they have been told by parents, teachers, and media during their lives and what they are experiencing in life today.  We know from scientific research that schemas and beliefs that do not serve us well can be restructured to create a healthier mindset and more positive belief system that in turn create a happier, healthier life.  It is priceless to understand one’s own mind and to use science proactively to create the attitude, body, and overall life desired.

In short, the “mind” aspect of my Holistic Personal Training program has two parts: 1) identifying negative associations (conscious or unconscious) that do not serve the client, then cleansing the mind of those associations in reliance on scientific research on human cognition and how to modify schemas; and 2) building healthy, positive mental paradigms that serve as magnets to attract the life experiences the client desires. I listen carefully to the client to uncover unconscious mental processes that do not serve the client, then engage the power of affirmations, visualization, and meditation to restructure positive cognitive processes through intention and repetition. I recommend that each client peruse Joseph Murphy’s book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind. It is priceless.

The “body” aspect of my Holistic Personal Training program also involves two parts: 1) cleansing and detoxifying the body; and 2) building healthier and stronger bodily systems with an emphasis on the spine and the muscular system. I began researching weight control, longevity, and physical fitness at the end of 2023 and I currently hold multiple certifications including personal training, weight management, nutrition, and DNA-based fitness programming.

Losing fat eliminates bodily toxins and makes people look and feel much better very quickly. Losing fat has even more profound benefits because eliminating fat literally anti-ages the body by reducing toxins and system taxation that suppress optimal mitochondrial function, cell regeneration, and metabolism. Fasting – both intermittent fasting and autophagy – powerfully eliminate fat quickly and detoxify the body. My forthcoming book will explain my detailed fasting “hacks” that have already helped my clients succeed in losing weight quickly by avoiding the hunger that often accompanies fasting. Controlling hunger is a key to successful fasting. However, my program can be modified for clients for whom fasting is not recommended. Glucose regulation (avoiding glucose spikes) per se powerfully impacts metabolism and can be controlled significantly by consuming food groups in a proper order (for example, never consume sugar on an empty stomach).

There is also the body-strengthening aspect of my Holistic Personal Training program. My focus is to create a flexible and strong spine as well as strong respiratory, muscular, and bone systems through yoga, endurance exercise, and resistance training. Probably the single most important influencer of our physical health is our spinal system. I became a Certified Hot Yoga Instructor with CorePower Yoga in 2022 and I have been astonished by the body and mind benefits of yoga. Yoga is part of my daily life and my clients may receive private yoga instruction as part of my services. I also generally recommend endurance cardio, HIIT, and/or weightlifting, and DNA testing is especially valuable in choosing the most effective exercise for each client based on their propensity to eliminate fat and gain muscle with different forms of diet and exercise. However, for those people who are injured or immobile, exercise is not required to detoxify the body and eliminate fat. Excellent nutrition combined with regular metabolic switching can powerfully transform the body even without exercise.
